Project scope
Concept, design, manufacture and delivery of a 2800L Buffer Tank to hold Glycol at a design pressure of 6 BAR.
The Client
Greencore is a leading manufacturer of convenience goods, supplying the most successful retail and food service providers with a wide range of food goods both chilled and ambient. With more than 13,600 people and a revenue of £1.9Bn, Greencore is an excellent company to have on board as a client.
Our Project
SHG Engineering were involved in manufacturing of a buffer tank to be installed as a key part in a major upgrade to the cooling systems at Greencore, Spalding.
We were given a project scope and an outline of the required specifications relating to design pressure, volume, overall sizes limitations and a material preference and produced a concept for the vessel from this.
Once approved, the tank entered a design phase, utilising Finglow pressure vessel design software to ensure all safety and quality parameters were met according to PD550:2021+A3:2023 design standards. CAD software was then implemented, using AUTOCAD to produce high quality technical drawings for the vessel and 3D CAD software to create templates for the auxiliary parts to be laser cut.
After all materials/parts had been procured vessel manufacturing could begin, using our experienced team of coded welders to assembly the parts with maxiumum efficiency and quality, all in-house in our workshop facility. The buffer tank was then subjected to stringent quality checks, before coated to the clients specification and sent off for delivery.
The client then received a QA Technical Pack we like to supply with all of our major projects, this outlines each of the processes taken from start to finish including our design calculations, drawings, material certifications, welder qualifications, NDT Results and declarations of conformity for standards met. This gives each customer a clear understanding of what has been completed and peace of mind that all design and manufacturing is completed to the highest degree of quality.
The Challenge
This project was completed under a strict budget with an immediate timescale. To combat this we ensured that we contacted all of our trusted suppliers to get the lowest possible material costs and tried to keep labour costing down to a minimum without infringing on any quality/health and safety requirements
Our skilled craftsmen worked to the best of their abilities to ensure completion within the budget and timescale, utilising local 3rd party non-destructive testing companies to test the vessel onsite and reduce waiting times/mileage costs.
Overall the project was a success with the buffer tank delivered to site on time, to specification and with excellent customer feedback in relation to how our Quality Assured Technical Pack was delivered.
